Help! This Eureka Math Makes NO SENSE!
Math is taught differently now than it used to be taught. The emphasis no longer lies in just obtaining the correct answer, but also in understanding how to manipulate numbers and use them as tools to glean new information.
Just as our kids tend to learn new technology more easily than us adults, they tend to grasp this "new math" more easily, as well. If you need some help helping your child, this page contains some great resources.
HOMEWORK ANSWERS
Click the link below to see the answers for your child's classwork and homework. Please use this as a resource to help your child if he/she is struggling. The point of homework is to think mathematically, not just obtain correct answers.
Once clicking on the correct module, please ignore the videos (the links will not work) and scroll down to see the lessons. There is also a helpful parent newsletter for each module at the top of the page.
If you are interested in videos, scroll down on my page.
The link in the box above belongs a school in Louisiana. However, they have laid out their homework help section in such a used friendly way, that I am linking my site to theirs.
VIDEO EXPLANATIONS
Video examples explaining each lesson from Modules 1 - 7 can be found HERE. The video from Module 1, Lesson 1 is linked below to give you an example of what to expect.
Alternative Homework
Math homework should take no more than 10-15 minutes a night. (Please get in touch with me if this is not the case for your child.) The purpose is to give the math brain an extra workout by reviewing the concept of the day once more. It is difficult to learn new things without being exposed to them multiple times.
If you would prefer, your child can use an interactive website called Zearn in place of the worksheet that I send home. If this is appealing, please know the following things:
* Zearn will review the lesson of the day in a fun way while asking your child to solve problems similar to the homework problems. This could be ideal if your child is struggling in math, but might bore your child if he/she excels in math.
* Because Zearn also reteaches, the interactive website homework will most likely take LONGER than the worksheet.
* I must know that your child would like to start using Zearn IN ADVANCE so that I may set his/her correct location within the curriculum.
* You cannot skip lessons in Zearn. If you choose Zearn, your child will not have the ability to go back and forth within homework choices during the week as they please. If you change your mind and would like to stop using Zearn, please let me know.
* If your child will be out of school for an extended period of time (illness, travel, etc), this resource would be a great way to ensure that your child still gets exposed to the lessons that he/she missed.
